Visit Syracuse Operates New Welcome Center

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo recently announced the grand opening of the Central New York Welcome Center inside Destiny USA to be operated by Visit Syracuse, Inc. The welcome center features regionally specific elements, including a wall of fame recognizing famous Central New Yorkers and a state-of-the-art Central New York virtual reality experience. Visit Syracuse operates a retail space within the Welcome Center, featuring a Taste NY Market with local food and gifts. The shop also sells I Love New York T-shirts, magnets and travel mugs.

The new Central New York Welcome Center inside Destiny USA is open. Visitors can purchase local products, design trip itineraries and test their knowledge of the area.

Meet Allyson Towndrow
Visit Syracuse welcomes Allyson Towndrow to the team, manager of the new Central New York Welcome Center at Destiny USA. Towndrow manages Welcome Center staff, answers questions about the region, greets visitors, creates innovative ways to increase traffic to the Welcome Center, manages the retail space/inventory, and trains employees to help sell Central New York and the great products produced in the Syracuse area.

The Welcome Center also pays tribute to the great outdoors with a camper retrofit with an LED screen that promotes regional tourism attractions and destinations. Multiple interactive “I Love New York” kiosks are positioned in kayaks, allowing visitors to test their knowledge of the region or design a trip itinerary.

“Visit Syracuse is proud to operate this beautiful CNY Welcome Center,” said Tracey Burkey, Visit Syracuse vice president of engagement. “Central New York is rich in history, culture agriculture and so much more. This Welcome Center showcases all this region has to offer and encourages visitors to explore and experience our spectacular region.”

The Welcome Center inside Destiny USA is one of 11 being built throughout the state. The centers advance Governor Cuomo’s goal of growing the state’s tourism industry by promoting local attractions, food and beverage producers and the region’s agritourism destinations.
